Step 1: Locate Air Filter Box

Open hood. Look for large black plastic box near front of engine bay - usually on driver side. It has a hose connecting to engine intake. Most held with clips or screws.

Check owner's manual or use auto parts store lookup by year/make/model. Write down part number from old filter. K&N washable filters last 50K miles but cost more. Standard paper filters last 15K miles.

Step 3: Open Air Filter Housing

Remove clips (squeeze and pull) or unscrew bolts holding top of air box. Lift lid carefully - may have sensors attached (just lift enough to access filter). Note orientation of old filter before removing.

Step 4: Inspect and Clean Housing

Remove old filter. Vacuum or wipe out any debris, leaves, or dust from inside box. Check air intake hose for cracks or loose connections. Ensure housing gasket is in good condition.

Step 5: Install New Filter

Place new filter in housing with rubber edge seated properly. Ensure airflow direction arrow (on filter) points toward engine. Filter should fit snugly - no gaps around edges. Close lid, secure clips/screws.
