1 Step 1: Check if Replacement is Needed

Step 1: Check if Replacement is Needed
Signs: squealing/grinding noise, vibration when braking, longer stopping distance, brake warning light. Inspect pads through wheel spokes - should be at least 1/4" thick. If less, replace immediately.
2 Step 2: Gather Tools and Parts

Step 2: Gather Tools and Parts
You need: lug wrench, jack and jack stands, C-clamp or brake caliper tool, socket set, brake cleaner, and new brake pads (get ceramic for less dust, longer life).
Ceramic Brake Pads
Premium pads - quiet, less dust, longer lasting. Match to vehicle make/model
3 Step 3: Lift Vehicle Safely

Step 3: Lift Vehicle Safely
Loosen lug nuts slightly before lifting. Position jack under frame rail or designated jacking point. Lift until wheel is off ground. Place jack stand under frame. Lower car onto stand. Remove lug nuts and wheel.
4 Step 4: Remove Old Brake Pads
Step 4: Remove Old Brake Pads
Remove caliper bolts (usually 2, on back of caliper). Slide caliper off rotor carefully - don't let hang by brake line, support with wire. Remove old pads and anti-rattle clips. Inspect rotor for grooves or warping.
5 Step 5: Compress Caliper Piston
Step 5: Compress Caliper Piston
Use C-clamp or brake tool to slowly compress piston back into caliper bore. This makes room for thicker new pads. Watch brake fluid reservoir - may overflow as piston compresses.
6 Step 6: Install New Pads
Step 6: Install New Pads
Clean caliper mounting area with brake cleaner. Install new anti-rattle clips. Apply thin layer of brake grease to pad backing plates (NOT braking surface!). Install pads into caliper bracket.
7 Step 7: Reassemble and Bed In
Step 7: Reassemble and Bed In
Slide caliper over pads and rotor. Install caliper bolts and torque to spec (usually 25-35 ft-lbs). Reinstall wheel, lower car. BEFORE DRIVING: pump brake pedal 10-20 times until firm. Test in driveway. Bed in brakes: 30 moderate stops from 30-40 mph.
