Ceiling fan install is a 60-90 minute DIY. Most replace an existing ceiling light. The trickiest part is supporting the fan (heavier than a light) — need a fan-rated electrical box.

Step 1: Confirm electrical box is fan-rated

Standard light boxes can't support fan weight + vibration. Fan-rated boxes are marked 'For Use With Ceiling Fans.' If yours isn't, replace before installing.

Warning: Standard light boxes can fail under fan weight + vibration. Fan FALLING from ceiling = ruined room + injury. Always verify fan-rated box.
