1 Step 1: Assess Hole Size
Step 1: Assess Hole Size
Small holes (less than 1"): spackle only. Medium holes (1-6"): mesh patch. Large holes (6"+): drywall patch. Corners: corner bead. For multiple holes, consider replacing entire sheet.
2 Step 2: Small Holes: Direct Spackle
Step 2: Small Holes: Direct Spackle
For nail holes and small dents: clean area, apply spackle with putty knife, slightly overfill. Let dry 1-2 hours. Sand smooth with 120-grit. Second coat if needed. Prime and paint.
3 Step 3: Medium Holes: Use Mesh Patch
Step 3: Medium Holes: Use Mesh Patch
Clean edges of hole, remove loose material. Apply self-adhesive mesh patch over hole. Spread joint compound over patch with 6" knife, feathering edges. Let dry 24 hours. Apply 2nd coat, wider (8-10"). Sand smooth. Prime.
4 Step 4: Large Holes: Cut and Patch
Step 4: Large Holes: Cut and Patch

5 Step 5: Apply Joint Compound
Step 5: Apply Joint Compound
Apply mesh tape over seams. First coat: fill seams/screw holes, spread thin. Dry 24 hours. Second coat: 6" wider, feather edges. Dry. Third coat: 8-10" wide, ultra-smooth. Let dry, sand with 120-grit.
6 Step 6: Prime and Paint
